Promoting digital accessibility for an inclusive environment
Accessibility refers to the ability of a computer system, such as websites, mobile applications or other digital resources, to be used by a wide range of users, including those with disabilities.
In a digital context, accessibility implies that online resources are designed and developed to be usable and understandable by everyone, regardless of their physical, sensory, or cognitive abilities.
This means that digital resources must be designed with several factors in mind, including:
1
Visual impairment accessibility
Resources should be accessible to users who are blind or visually impaired through the use of assistive technologies such as screen readers and screen magnifiers, alternative text for images, contrast and text size.
2
Accessibility hearing disabilities
Resources must provide alternatives foraudio, such as subtitles or transcripts, to enable users with hearing disabilities to access the multimedia content.
3
Accessibility for mobility disabilities
Ā Resources must be navigable and usable through a variety of input modes, such as keyboards, joysticks, or assistive technologies for cursor control.
4
Cognitive disability accessibility
Resources should be designed clearly and intuitively, with layout and structure that facilitate navigation of the content by users with cognitive disabilities.
